Rhubarb Recipes (that are not pies!)

05.23.14
Hello! You've landed on an older recipe. Sometimes the older recipes aren't written as clearly as they should be or something might need to be clarified. If something seems confusing or a question arises, send me an email and I'll help!

I have a soft spot in my heart for rhubarb. I grew up thinking that rhubarb was extremely special and not something everyone grew (so special, in fact, that I was convinced you couldn't get new rhubarb plants.) My great-grandfather planted rhubarb many moons ago and through the years those rhubarb plants have been transferred and split between new homes and new families. I was convinced this was the tradition of rhubarb. Of course, some years later, I learned that rhubarb was quite common but still, I love the story I have with rhubarb. Even more, I knew M and I had something special when he told me of all the pies, rhubarb was his favorite.

I've always been a big proponent of non-pie rhubarb recipes, especially savory rhubarb recipes. I think rhubarb is one of the most underrated spring produce items. The earthy, tartness is a flavor of it's own that deserves to shine without being smothered in sugar. So today, I've sharing with you a few of my favorite rhubarb recipes from the site and from around the web. Hopefully this inspires you to step outside the pie box (ha!). Have a lovely long weekend!

And while these might not be savory, quick breads and crepes are always on my to-make list:

Plus a few recipes from around the web that caught my eye:

  1. Wow, thank you so much for showing us so many different ways of preparing rhubarb... I've never like rhubarb until last year, when I realized that it is actually soooo delicious! Don't know what was wrong with me before... 🙂 But I do have some catching up to do now.

  2. Awesome roundup of recipes! I've never had rhubarb, but it looked so good at the farmer's market today, I had to buy some. I have a feeling I might be going back for more next weekend as there are so many great ideas here!

  3. I used to think the same thing! Growing up, my grandma was the only person I knew that grew rhubarb and the only person I knew that made rhubarb pie. I think that's part of what makes me love rhubarb so much today. Also, I love that you have included some rhubarb recipes other than pie and crumble! I wish I had seen them back in the spring when rhubarb was in season!
