With the cookbook being out for about three weeks, it's been so fun to hear from people who have started making the recipes. If I had to choose my favorite reason to write cookbooks, it would be to hear from those they inspire in the kitchen. My hope, especially with this book, is that it will inspire you to have fun and really break away from the notion of following a recipe to the exact ingredient.
If you need a little more convincing this book is for you, a few of my friends have been kind enough to share a few recipes from the book that you can check out:
Spring Panzanella via Cookie and Kate
Chickpea Veggie Burger via Food Loves Writing
Breakfast Parfaits with Roasted Strawberries via A Couple Cooks
Creamy Polenta with Crispy Beets via With Food and Love
Lemon White Chocolate Scones via The Vanilla Bean Blog
Vegetarian Black Bean Enchiladas via Turntable Kitchen
Almond Kamut Granola
Lemon Poppyseed Scones
Three Onion Fried Rice
Gouda and Spinach Mac and Cheese
As promised, we're on to the next section of the book this week: small plates and appetizers. If there is any chapter that gets used the most, it is this one. I use this chapter all the time for some of my most go-to items like hummus and salsa (like this radish salsa version!)
Today's recipe is the spring recipe for radish salsa (and shows you just how far I can deviate from a base recipe). This definitely isn't the traditional salsa that you would dip chips into (I might dip some pita chips mothered but I find this radish salsa perfect for topping tacos, quesadillas, morning eggs, or even mixed into a salad. The flavors are straight forward and a great way to use up those spring radishes that might be lingering in your refrigerator.
Also, if you've made something from the cookbook- I'd love to hear about it! Tag it on instagram (#naturallyella), shoot me an email ([email protected]) or if you're feeling adventurous, leave a review on Amazon!

Beautiful pictures!
Making homemade crackers, preserves and cheese boards. Totally my favorite.
Fermented salsa and carrot sticks are always in my fridge for a quick appetizer set up.
this looks amazing!!! perfect for a spring day 🙂
Without any hesitation : hummus! I'm addicted! I bring a big bowl of it to every gathering I go to, my friends must probably hate me for that!
I like home-made hummus. It's even best if you cook the garbanzos yourself. I serve it with pita and carrot or celery sticks.
My go too party appetizer in the summer is homemade hummus with homegrown snap peas and carrots for dipping!
I tried a salsa similar to this last weekend, but now that you've posted this recipe... I need to make it again!! A favorite appetizer of mine would be a spinach artichoke dip with a side of tortilla chips.
Favorite app is my moms chopped salsa of peppers, onions and tomatoes, she adds a little salt, cumin, and parsley for seasoning. It is great on chips but excellent for omelettes and topping salads!
I absolutely love pesto, and I think little polenta bits with roasted peppers and a dollop of pesto make for a lovely appetizer. And it just happens to be a great way to use olive oil!
I love celery sticks and sunflower seed butter!
Love hummus and veggies, guacamole, chips + salsa, cheese. Appetizers are the best 🙂 You're new book looks amazing! It's on my Amazon wish list!
I'm a big snacker, and recently I've been on a sliced apple with raw honey and cheddar kick.
Congrats on the new cookbook!
It may not be classy, but anything dipped in peanut butter is always my go to snack!
Looks delicious. I'm a sucker for some delicious fresh guac!
We love this salsa on tacos, albiet a slightly different version. Going to try it tonight. As for appetizers and or starters, homemade "life changing" crackers, lot's of dips like various humus and baba ganoush w/lot's of olive oil drizzled over. Chimichuri over blanched vegetables. Thanks for the inspiration.
This looks amazing, two things I always have too many leftovers of in my fridge - scallions and radishes! Plus I'd love to get my hands on your lovely book. I'd have to say my favorite small plate/appetizer would have o be avocado toast, which I am eating right now 😉
My go-to appetizer is making bruschetta. Simple, bite-sized, and yummy!
Whenever my husband and I visit his family, I am always asked to bring a batch of sweet and spicy almonds...easy to make and absolutely addicting!
spinach balls are always a go to for me! Love this recipes, I had a bunch of radishes to eat up.
I love to make Cucumber-Stuffed Cherry Tomatoes because they are pretty quick and still blow peoples minds on how beautiful and tasty they are. I found the recipe a few years back: http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/cucumber-stuffed-cherry-tomatoes
Hummus & raw veggies are probably my #1 go to since going dairy free. I used to make little phyllo cups baked with brie and a tiny bit of jam (added after baking) to bring to parties, which usually went pretty quickly!
Pita chips and green chutney
I love hummus with crackers or carrots for a quick and easy snack.
I love to make bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. We use my dad's home grown peppers when they are in season, but they are *so much* hotter than the ones at the store!
Carrots (and other veggies) and hummus are one of my go-to potluck/party contributions. Fresh cut fruit is always a great option too!
I love hummus or green chili/black bean dip with home made spelt tortillas.
i have some difficulty thinking up creative appetizers and usually resort to veggies and a homemade dip. However bruschetta and cheese plates go over well... Usually depends what I have on hand. If I can find items in my fridge and pantry to come up with an appetizer and avoid going to the store, I'm a happy camper.
My favorite appetizer has to be sashimi or vegetable crudite!
This looks delicious and I'm so happy for you that the book is going down a storm. Congratulations!
Recently my favorite app is a pizza dip. Creamy, cheesy and oh so delicious!
My go-to appetizer to bring to parties is my homemade hummus with a selection of crisp veggies.
I love chips with homemade salsa!
I love chips and salsa or guacamole. You just can't go wrong with Mexican or avocados! I'll have to give this one a try too! Thanks.
I make a mean artichoke dip, not the heavy creamy kind but a healthier version.
I have always loved stuffed olives with a glass of wine. Simple, but so tasty!
My go-to quick appetizer is to whip a quick batch of homemade hummus and serve with fresh veggies from the farmer's market!
i'd have to say my favorite snack is probably something crispy - chips or crisped pita - and some kind of yummy dip!
