I had a recent realization:  my camera can do awesome things like shoot video.

So, I played with video and have to say, I really love it!  I really want to try and get more video onto the site because if you are anything like me, having a visual can always help.  This first one is a little long and slightly boring but I wanted to share it with you anyway just because I still really liked it!  I can’t wait to do more (and hopefully get M involved since he has the awesome editing software.)  I also can’t wait to try and use real instruments (sorry for the slight midi sounding guitar…)

I’ve seen so many great videos out on the web that it makes me excited to learn more about everything!  Of course, lesson number one when doing video of preparing food: don’t put the tripod on the table!

I figured this chocolate chip scone recipe would be an easy one to start with (and since I was hungry for a good scone when I made this!)

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to see in video form!

Chocolate Chip Scones
Prep time
Cook time
Total time
Recipe type: Breakfast
Serves: 4-6
  • 1½ cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 2 tablespoon organic cane sugar
  • 2¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoon cultured organic butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup + 2 T of buttermilk
  • ¾ cup chunks of chocolate
  • Egg wash:
  • 1 none egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  1. Preheat oven to 425˚ and cover a sheet tray in parchment paper (or, buy a reusable silpat mat!).
  2. In a large bowl, sift together all the dry ingredients. Cut in butter (using pastry blender, two knives, or my favorite-your hands) until butter is in little pea size pieces. In a smaller bowl, whisk together egg yolk and butter milk and then stir into dry ingredients until dough pulls together. Fold in chocolate chip chunks and roll out onto a floured surface.
  3. Whisk together the egg and water, set aside. Pat dough into a square and cut into four squares (for large scones) or if you don’t want mega scones, try cutting the dough into 6-8 pieces.) Place on the sheet tray and brush egg wash over scones (this will give a nice golden color.) Place tray in oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.
