I’m on vacation and you know what that means- I’m bringing something back for you!

I feel recently I’ve been touting the wonders of spices and in particular spice shops.  Like most ingredients, spices can go bad or loose flavor after time and the spices you can get in specialty shops and bulk bins are so full of flavor.  I use to be so scared of spices but now I can’t go a day without rummaging through my cabinet to get inspired.

Every time my family goes on vacation, we find a couple spice stores and stock up before we head home.  While I was in the store yesterday, it dawned on me that I needed to share!  Today I’m giving away a box set of four spices and a free copy of my summer eCookbook (either pdf or iPad version):

{The giveaway has ended but be sure to check out these great recipes that include these spices!}

I picked these out specifically for my giveaway because they are some of my favorite spices (and ones I use a lot- obviously, just look at the recipes below!)

The Balti is a type of curry spice blend that works well with:

Chipotle Powder (a smoked, slightly hot pepper powder):

Smoked Paprika:

Cinnamon (amazing cinnamon!):

How to enter:

All you need to do is comment.  Seriously- tell me what recipe you would make, how your day is going, or just say hi!  I’ve been doing giveaways on facebook but after more people enter than I expect,  it gets harder for me to keep track.  So, this is the easiest way!  Giveaway will close at 8:00pm cst on Sunday, July 29th and winner will be announced on Monday morning. (PS- this giveaway is open to anyone, in any country- just so long as it’s not illegal to mail you spices!)

Winner has been emailed!

*This giveaway is funded out of the goodness of my own heart, my love of spices, and my desire to send something to someone in the mail.

I certainly love the look and feel of this page. I haven’t picked a recipe to begin with because it all looks amazing. And I am easily overwhelmed with eye candy.
I do believe the best place to start is the ebook. I can cook my way thru that perhaps..

  • Athena

  • Aubrey Nyul

I l oveeeeee me some spices! I’m usually adding more than recipes call for along with an additional few of my own! • http://thislifeabundant.blogspot.com/ Abby

I’ve been in love with Panzeys spices ever since my grandmother put my first bottle into my hands. Their fresh flavors are great, but what I love most is their spice blends. I’ve never tried the Balti seasoning nor have I had the the opportunity to try anything curried. I know two things though, I love lentils & I love rhubarb. The first recipe I have to try is the Curried Lentils and Rhubarb Chutney. Even if I don’t win the spices, I’m making this! Yum!

I came upon this post while enjoying a bowl of your amaranth porridge, this time with some sauteed peaches and plums in place of the rhubarb. An on the spice front, (speaking of spices…) I threw half of a cinnamon stick into the amaranth as it simmered. Absolutely delicious! I have the zucchini paella bookmarked for my next culinary adventure :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lew.wolfson.1 Lew Wolfson

Thank you for all the inspiration in the kitchen!

This post has everything I needed, after a very long day at work, wearing a lab coat you don’t want to wear because it’s too hot. arriving home at 8pm means the thoughts of buying take away start to take over but….luckily there’s RSS feeds and feelder on my iPad so I found you post straight away and now I am not ordering food or eating a sandwich: I’ll make the recipe that seems the quickest, chickpeas and spinach burgers!!! Thank you for your kindness in doing this giveaway- that’s why the blogosphere is amazing: you can pamper people that you know from the internet and that feels totally right because you can be certain they have things in common with you: they are reading your blog, everyday!

  • Loretta

On the matter of spices, if you ever come to Montreal, you should visit La dépense at the Jean-Talon Market. The owners travel the world to discover and get their hands on new spices. (http://www.epicesdecru.com/en/)

Hi there so ,so glad I found your website the recipes are inspiring. I’d love to make the pumpkin oat bread pumpkins grow so well up here ,but my three boys aren’t fussed about eating pumpkin and I adore cinnamon. I actually have a cinnamon tree growing in the yard but it’s not quite big enough to start harvesting yet…Mind you everytime I walk past it I can’t help myself I have to rub a leaf .I read the other day that a teaspoon of cinnamon a day can prevent and also help treat diabetes which is a huge bonus ,so I’d love to have a tonne of recipes using cinnamon.

Hey :) My name is Alicia from MA. I’m feeling the Pumpkin Oat bread. I kind of want to make some delicious ridiculous soup that would go great with it or even play on the flavors. Trader Joes finally let loose their Pumpkin Ale early this year, and it’s having me get the craving early. I would love some more and new spices to really try and kick up my blog again and maybe inspire. I’ll send you pictures of my creation if you give those spices to me.

You’ve been such an inspiration for my own food blog. I just wanted to pop back in and check things out here. How is your vacation going? Hope all is well.
