I really could care less about Valentine’s day.

This could be due to the fact that  I believe that any guy I am with should shower me with flowers and chocolates every day of the year (not just some random day in February…)

And for those of you who don’t know me, that was a joke- I’d weigh 500 pounds if I ate boxes of chocolate every day.  The really reason is my birthday falls on the same day.

This still doesn’t stop me from making chocolate things though.  I still care enough to make baked good full of chocolate.  Like last year, I made cupcakes and doughnuts.

So this year, I went with cookies.  For awhile now I have been craving shortbread cookies.  While I usually make sugar cookies to decorate, the shortbread urge over came when I decided to make cookies.  I think homemade heart cookies are a bit more special than a box of store bought chocolates.

Want to make a special gift for someone you love?  Make these shortbread cookies and either cover them in melted chocolate or icing (I couldn’t decide which ones I liked better so I made them both!)

These look so yummy! How did you make the topping design? Very bright and pretty too!

I used a thicker icing around the edge and then flooded the cookie with thinner icing. Then with the same icing (different colors) I pipped hearts in the flooded area- then I used a toothpick to drag the icing to the middle to create the swirl.
