There are certain foods I can always remember being around during the holidays, especially pies.

I can remember one year I came downstairs on Christmas morning only to find a piece of a pie missing and my parents had me convinced that Santa didn’t want cookies, so he ate pie instead.

They had me fooled even though I didn’t blame him- I would have chosen pie over cookies too.

My father’s favorite pie is Chocolate Cream.  However, I grew up on believing that chocolate cream pie meant buying the graham cracker crust, chocolate pudding mix, and cool-whip.  As a child, I thought this was amazing.

Until I grew up and learned to make my own chocolate cream pie.  There are some recipes (very few) that I just don’t mess with because I find them amazing just the way they are.  Dorie Greenspan’s cream pies (chocolate, coconut, and banana) are some serious pies and the ones I always turn to when I need an amazing pie.

Recipes can be found in her book From my Home to Yours or thanks to Tuesday with Dorie Group, the chocolate cream pie recipe can be found here.
